University students' use of digital devices in seminars - a survey among professors

Abstract

Få har undersøgt underviseres oplevelse af tilstedeværelsen af digitale devices i undervisningsrummet på universiteterne, og vi har begrænset viden om hvorvidt digitale devices har en betydning for universitetsundervisning og -læring i en dansk kontekst. Vi undersøger universitetsunderviseres opfattelse af digitale devices i undervisningsrummet, strategier til at imødegå tilstedeværelsen af digitale devices og holdninger til digitale devices. Dette undersøges ved hjælp af et lille surveystudie af universitetsundervisere på et dansk institut med undervisning der kan beskrives som en blanding af forelæsning og seminarundervisning/-holddiskussioner. Studiet viser at digitale devices spiller en meget stor rolle i universitetsundervisningen, men at underviserne kun i begrænset omfang oplever at digitale devices bruges til undervisningsirrelevante ting. Selv om en del undervisere er opmæksomme på, at de er i konkurrence med digitale devices om de studerendes opmærksomhed, har de primært en ’hands-off’-tilgang til studerendes brug af digitale devices og tilpasser i stedet for undervisningen med konkurrencen for øje.
