Abstract

Since its establishment in 1994, the Danish University Pedagogical Network (DUN) has been a central actor in the development of university teaching in Denmark. The history of this network's creation and development over 30 years shows how pedagogical questions have gained an increasingly central role at universities. However, it also demonstrates how the ideal of creating pedagogical quality is characterized by a tension between autonomy and political governance. Through presentations by former chairpersons of DUN, this article provides insight into the institutionalization of university pedagogy in Denmark, and shows how the field has developed as a response to political interventions regarding quality. It shows how the ideas about quality, which the field has sought to qualify and partially counteract, have shaped the premises for the development of the field itself. The article invites consideration of which values and alliances should characterize the field of university pedagogy in the future.
