Abstract

Khatib argues against the repressive use that the notion of the singularity of the Holocaust has come to entail with regards to the situation of the Palestinians. Tracing the repressive logic to a notion of human rights that builds on a Western-centered discourse, he shows the Palestinians to be a symptom unravelling the universal claims of that discourse. Not denying the ethical and historical impact of the Holocaust, or of the terrorist attack October 7th 2023, Khatib shows how the claim to singularity have served purposes of repression and exclusion.
