This article focuses on literary multilingualism. Over the past three decades, this field of research has experienced significant growth, reflecting how migration, digitalization, and postcolonialism have led to cultural and linguistic encounters on an unprecedented scale. The number of authors incorporating multilingualism as part of their aesthetic is increasing, thereby highlighting the need for greater attention to the reading of such literature within literary education. Based on my PhD dissertation (Egendal 2024), I delineate and contextualize this research field and subsequently present how Amina Elmi's Barbar [TAVSHEDENS OBJEKT] (2023) can be studied in an educational context as a work demonstrating a nuanced use of literary multilingualism. This analysis draws on a model I developed during my work with transcultural multilingual literature. The article is aimed at educators teaching literature at, for instance, upper secondary schools or universities.
