Long-term cognitive, physical, and emotional symptoms can occur when adults acquire a concussion. Until now, there has been no clear explanation for why some adults develop long-term symptoms while others do not. New research has revealed that an early interdisciplinary approach can prevent long term consequences. This study presents results from an early intervention programme for adults with concussion 0–3 months post injury. 43 adults participated in an 8-week interdisciplinary intervention programme, including group and individual sessions. Pre- and post-tests were conducted measuring concussion symptoms, mental distress, and fatigue. Results indicate a reduction in concussion symptoms, less mental distress, and fatigue after the intervention. Results are discussed in light of previous research and with reference to the biopsychosocial model.
