Formålet med nærværende artikel var at undersøge pars oplevelser af at deltage i et online-selvhjælpsprogram, Parfokus, med fokus på de styrker og begrænsninger, programmet kan have. Kvalitative semistrukturerede interviews blev analyseret ud fra en fænomenologisk-hermeneutisk tilgang (Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis) og suppleret med skriftligt materiale, som deltagerne selv har udfyldt i Parfokus. Undersøgelsen viste, at nogle af styrkerne ved Parfokus er muligheden for at overkomme barrierer forbundet med at søge parterapi, at motivere den mindst engagerede partner samt at medvirke til at initiere en hjælpsom bevægelse i fastlåste forståelser og positioner i parforholdet. Samtidig viste analysen, at programmets korte varighed og begrænsede vejlederkontakt for nogle par har konsekvenser for deres konkrete erfaringer med interventionen. Det kan f.eks. medføre, at de mangler hjælp til at håndtere stærke og sårbare følelsesmæssige reaktioner, eller at de indgår aftaler om adfærdsændringer, de ikke kan gennemføre i hverdagen. Begge dele kan have utilsigtede konsekvenser. Implikationerne heraf diskuteres i artiklen – herunder at Parfokus opleves som en overskuelig, hjælpsom og lettilgængelig intervention, der kan nå ud til flere par med behov for hjælp, samt at Parfokus ikke skal forstås som et ”quickfix” eller en erstatning for parterapi.
