Artiklen udforsker, hvis og hvordan vestlige sport diskurser og praksisser kan bidrage til kvinders udvikling i islamiske lande. Muligheder og barrierer, de Islamske kvinder står over for i sporten belyses.

Forfatterbiografi

Gertrud Pfister, Københavns Universitet

Gertrud Pfister, PhD in history and sociology, worked as a professor at the Freie Universität Berlin from 1980-2000. Currently, she is a Professor at the Department of Exercise and Sport Sciences, University of Copenhagen. From 1983 to 2001, Gertrud was President of the International Society for the History of Physical Education and Sport and President of the International Sport Sociology Association from 2004-2008. Gertrud served as a guest professor at several foreign universities, and was invited as a keynote speaker to more than 30 international congresses. She is a member of the editorial boards of 15 scientific journals. The main topics of her research are sport history and sport sociology, with a special focus on social class, gender and ethnicity, socialization, and international comparisons. Gertrud conducted several large national and international research projects, and is currently carrying out major research on doping and gender as well as on health and physical activities. The results of her projects are published in more than 200 articles in peer reviewed journals and several books.
