Artiklen giver historiske eksempler fra USA, som illustrerer idræt som et korrelat til diplomati, hvordan kroppen er blevet brugt som en praksis af social kontrol, en praksis til at assimilere indvandrergrupper eller en måde at tvinge koloniserede folk ind i et foreskrevet værdisystem. 

Forfatterbiografi

Gerald R. Gems, North Central College, Naperville, Illinois

Gerald Gems received his Ph.D. from the University of Maryland. He is currently a Professor at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois. Gerald is the past President of the North American Society for Sport History and a member of the Executive Council of the International Society for the History of Physical Education and Sport. Gerald has authored or co-authored 8 books and more than 150 articles.
