Abstract

This article explores the development of research on atypical employment and other emerging trends in the Danish labour market, based on contributions published in Tidsskrift for Arbejdsliv over the past two decades. Atypical employment (defined as not having a permanent full-time job with a single employer for at least 30 hours per week) has increased over time and now accounts for nearly one-third of employment in Denmark. The article demonstrates how research and journal contributions initially focused on formal regulation but have since expanded to include aspects such as job insecurity, working conditions, and theoretical understandings of the phenomenon. This shift has contributed to a deeper understanding of labour market segmentation and inequality. The article concludes with a discussion of recent and ongoing research projects outside the journal, highlighting the continued need to address atypical employment in an era marked by technological change and increasing flexibility.
