People with disabilities generally struggle with lower employment rates compared to other groups. Employers’ perspectives on employees with disabilities are central to understanding the challenges and to contributing to the development of workplace inclusion. This article examines employers’ experiences in recruiting and retaining employees with mobility disabilities. We identify critical factors that influence employers’ decision-making processes. The analysis is based on interviews with employers and managers at 20 workplaces in Denmark who have experience hiring and retaining employees from the target group. The article shows that successful processes require flexibility and initiative from municipal job centres, employers, and employees to meet individual needs in specific employment situations. Employees’ openness about their disabilities is crucial from the employers’ perspective but also places the employees in a vulnerable position. Finally, the article underscores the vital need for knowledge about opportunities and compensation schemes, empowering employers with the information they need to ensure successful employment relationships.
