Abstract

Despite the current idea of collabora - tion and communication as crucial in creating a coherent and holistic healthcare system in Denmark it seems as if the institutional framework and conditions today counteract such co-work. A strong discourse on the necessity of well-functioning cross-sectoral collaboration is isolated from and challenged by the logics of `New Public Management’, which characterize the past decades of management and organization of healthcare services. Based on two analytical examples of an action research project, I show how tensions and paradoxes in cross-sectoral cooperation affect the healthcare professionals working conditions and their possibilities for cooperating on the discharge of elderly patients.
