From distress to resilience in a digitalised work life – An alternative perspective

Abstract

Digitalisation has introduced transforming changes in the workplace, bringing both opportunities and challenges. Technology-related stress is on the rise, inducing detrimental and costly consequences for both employees and organisations. With this article, we argue that employee well-being in relation to the digitalised work life should be considered a shared organisational value best secured by collective and organisational effort. This article provides a fresh perspective, emphasising the role of organisational resilience in managing digital pressure. This work proposes actionable strategies that organisations can employ to bolster resilience by drawing on five key trends related to digital stress. These strategies revolve around fostering networking activities, promoting continuous learning, and enhancing adaptability. By integrating two separate research fields, we propose an alternative perspective on how organisations can cultivate resilience and foster a healthier and more adaptive work life in a digital era.
