Abstract

Three different historical versions of the concept »the unconcscious« are discussed, primarily based on two other concepts »determination« and »selfconsciousness«. It is claimed that also the hermeneutic tradition has a concept of the unconscious, but that
it is not psychological, but sociological. The article concludes, that the essential evolutionary characteristic of the human species is the psychological uncounscious in relation to the sociological unconscious.
