Hvordan hjemmet til mennesker med psykiske helse- og/eller rusproblemer blir preget av profesjonelle hjelpere og materiell utforming

Mennesker har behov for et hjem, uavhengig av deres livssituasjon. I denne artikkelen vektlegger vi betydningen av at kommunalt psykisk helse- og rusarbeid også foregår i boligene til mennesker som trenger hjelp. Vi redegjør for utviklingen fra asylbyggingstiden til dagens boformer med fokus på nordiske forhold. Videre ser vi nærmere på hva som skjer når profesjonelle kommer hjem til mennesker med psykiske helse- og/eller rusutfordringer og hvordan privatlivet endrer seg. Til slutt diskuterer vi risikoen for institusjonalisering av hjemmet, basert på sosiale og materielle dimensjoner. Samtidig utforsker vi behovet for en avinstituasjonalisering av hjemmet som kan understøtte menneskers selvstendighet og personlige utforming av hjemmet.
