Author Guidelines

Guidelines for authors

Context is an open access repository of instruments for research into learning and teaching in context. It is required that the submission of an instrument is accompanied by an article that describes the context in which the instrument has been developed and used.

Manuscript standard

Only manuscripts at a maximum of 3.000 words (excl. references) are accepted. When submitting your manuscript please make sure to include all relevant author details from all authors. Authors  are required state 3-5 keywords. The first keyword must be one of the following: quantitative, qualitative, analytics. The second keyword must indicate the type of the instrument, e.g. test, prompt, problem solving task, interview guide. In addition, authors can chose 3 keywords of his or her own choice. 

In order to expose potential conflicting interests and to address potential biases, authors are required to include relevant funding details from the projects in which their instruments have been applied. 

Context uses an APA style guide for references. www.apastyle.org/index.aspx 

Manuscripts must be prepared for double blind reviews. Author details and self-references should therefore be anonymized. 

Formatting

In order to reduce time to publication please use a minimum of formatting (i.e. different font sizes and auto headlines) in your manuscript.

File formats

Manuscripts must submitted in MS Word-format (.doc) or Rich Text-format (.rtf). 

Instruments, scoring guides and other additional materials must be submitted as separate appendices in Portable Document Format (PDF).

Figures and tables

Please make sure to include tables and figures in the highest possible solution. It is the responsibility of the author to obtain permission for all figures and tables from third party materials.

Quotations

Quotations of five lines and fewer are integrated into the text. Quotations of five lines and more must be separated from the rest of the text.

DOI-references

All references must include a DOI-reference.

Manuscript structure standard

The sections below are mandatory. 

1. Title and subtitle

Your article must include both an informative title (i.e. the name of your instrument) and a subtitle (a more precise description of your instrument). Abstract at a maximum of 200 words.

2. Abstract

The purpose of the abstract is to describe the nature and purpose of the research instrument and + context and suggested future research projects. 

3. Introduction

In the introduction authors should describe the background and reason for developing the instrument.

It should also include a description of the project in which the instrument has been used. The description should include all aspects of the project that are relevant for the nature and future use of the research instrument. 

4. Thoughts on the research instrument in relation to scientific traditions and paradigms.

This section should include methodological considerations and an attempt to position the instrument, e.g. within the mixed methods paradigm. 

5. The scientific purpose of the instrument

A precise description of what the instrument investigates. 

6. Ethical considerations

A concise description of relevant ethical issues and guidelines regarding the use of the instrument. 

7. Validation of the instrument

8. Perspectives and potential future research
