Resumé

This text summarises Uffe Juul Jensen’s keynote lecture at the ProFilViN conference in August 2025. Starting from the question of why society should care about philosophy and the philosophy of science, Jensen distinguishes three forms of Bildung: as action, as reflection and the search for truth, and as personal development through experience with societal relevance. He argues that philosophy can remain relevant to the professions only if it receives help from them in identifying the problems it does not currently address, and he gathers the point in the notion of a ‘philosophy just in time’: a philosophy that participates in the practice on which it reflects and changes itself through that participation.
