Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • I have read the submission guidelines and the policies.
  • The manuscript has not been previously published, nor has it been submitted to another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in the "Comments to the Editor" field). Regarding summaries of original articles and dissertation summaries, please refer separately to the manuscript guidelines, as these typically refer to already published material.
  • The manuscript file is in OpenOffice or Microsoft Word format.
  • The text is double-spaced, uses a 12-point font, and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed at the end of the manuscript.
  • If you are submitting a document to a section of the journal that undergoes peer review (all except editorials), the instructions under "Ensuring a Blind Review" have been followed, including that author names do not appear in the manuscript itself or in any other documents submitted for review. The editorial team ensures that documents such as authorship declarations are not forwarded to the reviewers.
  • DOIs are provided where available. This happens automatically if you use the Vancouver output style in your reference manager.

Example: Andersen HR, Nielsen TT, Rasmussen K, Thuesen L, Kelbaek H, Thayssen P, et al. A comparison of coronary angioplasty with fibrinolytic therapy in acute myocardial infarction. N Engl J Med. 2003;349(8):733-42. DOI: 10.1056/NEJMoa025142

  • Relevant approvals have been obtained (e.g., from the ethics committee, Data Protection Agency, or National Board of Health), and the study complies with applicable ethical principles, including the principle of autonomy, the requirement for informed consent, and the protection of participant anonymity. For further elaboration on these ethical principles, please refer to the Northern Nurses’ Federation’s consensus statement on nursing research in the Nordic countries.
  • Neither the manuscript nor any supplementary files (e.g., appendix) contain personally identifiable data. Any consent forms related to, for example, case reports or clinical photographs should be uploaded under Supplementary Files in Step 4.
  • All authors meet the authorship criteria according to the ICMJE. The names and affiliations of all co-authors have been entered under Step 3 “Metadata.” Once the manuscript has been received by the editorial office, an ICMJE form confirming authorship and conflicts of interest for each author will be requested. You will receive an email asking you to submit these within 2 weeks.
  • All authors are encouraged to provide their ORCID iD during submission.
