Abstract

In the fall of 2024, SUPERFLEX presented the exhibition SUPERFLEX & ASGER JORN: SUPERCONVERSATION at Museum Jorn. Here, the audience could experience the title work – an audio work designed as a conversation between Asger Jorn (1914–1973), Jørn Utzon (1918–2008), Sonja Ferlov Mancoba (1911–1984), Per Kirkeby (1938–2018), Guy Debord (1931–1994), Jaqueline de Jong (1939–2024), Le Corbusier (1887–1965), Troels Andersen (1940–2021), Pablo Picasso (1881–1973) and SUPERFLEX (established in 1993 by Bjørnstjerne Reuter Christiansen (b. 1969) Jakob Fenger (b. 1968) and Rasmus Rosengren Nielsen (b. 1969) written with the help of artificial intelligence.

The work was created using generative language models (LLMs), which are used to generate a guided dialogue with deceased actors in an AI-generated cross-historical conversation. By embracing the possibilities of new technology while probing its limitations, SUPERFLEX’s SUPERCONVERSATION is an aesthetic and philosophical debate across time.

Can a museum collection be activated through the artistic use of generative AI?
