About the journal's theme issues

Journal for Research in Sickness and Society is an interdisciplinary journal based on medical anthropology. The purpose of the journal is to promote and develop the research that lies in the borderland between health sciences and the humanities/social sciences. The aim of the journal is to function as a forum where these disciplines can meet and inspire each other – epistemologically, methodologically and theoretically – in different research contexts. The journal conveys debates and theoretical development that takes place in the growing professional collaborations and research initiatives that arise from this borderland field. The journal addresses everyone with an interest in research into illness, disease and society, and in particular researchers and practitioners in the healthcare field.

The journal is published twice a year as themed issues, which are edited by one or more guest editors in close collaboration with the journal's permanent editors.

The Journal for Research in Sickness and Society offers immediate Open Access to the journal's content based on the principle that free public access to research supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

Proposals for theme issues must be a maximum of 3000 – 4000 characters.

The number of publications in the individual theme issue varies, but it is a prerequisite for acceptance of a theme issue that guest editors draw up a list of 10-15 potential contributors.

It is not a prerequisite for the acceptance of a theme issue that all potential contributors have agreed to contribute with a paper.

Collection of abstracts and commitments from possible contributors takes place after a theme issue has been accepted and in collaboration with TFSS' editorial team.

TFSS's editorial team reserves the right to propose revisions to submitted proposals for theme issues before they are published in collaboration with TFSS. TFSS also reserves the right to make all proposals for theme issues and to ensure that they are widely distributed.

A call for a theme issue should contain:

A brief and precise description of the theme and/or problem area that the theme number will highlight, and a justification for this.

A condensed presentation of the primary academic/theoretical discussions the issue contributes to.

A number of specific examples of questions and topics that can be addressed in the theme issue.

A list of possible contributors.

See also TFSS website for examples of theme issues.

Proposals for theme issues are sent to the responsible editor, Sara Marie Hebsgaard Offersen:
