Resumé

Vestens blik på robotten er præget af en ambivalens, der kobler distance med slægtskab: På den ene side tager mennesket afstand fra det maskinelle; på den anden side skaber vi mekaniske figurer i vores eget billede. Denne artikel fortolker værket Can’t Help Myself (2016-2019) af Sun Yuan og Peng Yu, hvor en indespærret robot fejer en blodlignende væske op. Det leder til fire måder at percipere værket på, der tilsammen understreger blodets symbolske kompleksitet i den vestlige kulturhistorie, og hvordan blodet som materiale har potentiale til at vække liv i selv de mest mekaniske artefakter.
