Der gik mere end fire år fra de første diagnoser til den amerikanske præsident Ronald Reagan adresserede hiv/aids-epidemien. Manglen på virksomme behandlingsmetoder, frygt og misinformation resulterede i udgrænsning af bestemte grupper og skabte grobund for en række socialt indignerede værker, hvor kunstnere i tvetydige produktioner kombinerede sårbare og menneskelige kroppe, der samtidig var farlige, som var de fyldt med en aggressiv gift. Kroppe, der på en og samme tid skabte frygt og medfølende kærlighed/sanselighed.
