This article is about pedagogues' collaboration with families in difficulties. The article analyzes how the collaboration is founded in a social practice that makes it challenging for pedagogues to care for children and focus on detecting problems in children and parents' lives. Through the article, we examine how the collaboration between pedagogues and parents is linked with pedagogical working conditions as well as families’ conduct of life. Common to the article's two empirical examples are family life in difficulty. However, the difficulties in the families' everyday lives are treated very differently by the pedagogues. This seems to relate to how parents are understood as relevant collaborators and how they enter the collaboration where pedagogues act as 'helpers' for parents in need (Bader, 1993). The article contributes with a perspective on how parental collaboration must be explored in relation to a contradictory pedagogical practice, in order not to turn difficulties in families' everyday life into individualized problems. Keywords:
