Elektroniska ordböcker i Finland

Abstract

There are four companies producing large electronic dictionaries in Finland today.
Their approaches vary and so does the quality of their products. The publishing
house WSOY, which is known for its traditional paper dictionaries, issues the same
dictionaries in electronic form. WSOY's products are solid and well documented.
Kielikone has produced a dictionary program called MOT, for which it licenses
existing dictionaries to be used in electronic form. Kielikone has also produced some
dictionaries of its own. The quality of the different dictionaries found for MOT
therefore varies quite a lot. Sandstone and Euroword produce their own dictionaries
to be used with their respective computer programs. The material that these products
are based on has not been documented at all and the general quality leaves a lot to be
desired.
