Resumé

The articles in the Dictionary of Old Finnish are based on the collection of about half a million entries of words and a corpus in machine-readable form, the compilation of which was started in 1992. The corpus contains the essential documents of old Finnish and additionally other texts from different fields. In choosing the material, the goal has been a coverage as complete as possible from the lexicographic point of view. At present, the corpus contains over 2 million word forms in running texts, and the editors of the dictionary can pick the example sentences directly from it. The search programs always go sentence by sentence in looking for words, word forms of sequences or signs. It is also possible to look for alternative words or sign sequences, either exact or approximate ones, or limit the search to morphological elements. When necessary, word lists can be made using KWIC program.
