This article critically evaluates the Danish Bible Society’s test translation of the Gospel of Mark for the new authorized Bible (PO36), examining how the Society’s translation strategy shapes theological interpretation. It argues that the translators’ use of headings significantly influences readers’ perceptions of Jesus’ character, divine agency, and the narrative’s development. Special attention is given to Mark 1:4 and Mark 14:24, where revised lexical and grammatical decisions align Mark more closely with atonement theology than earlier translations at the expense of covenant theology. Although the article challenges the view of Jesus’ death implicit in these renderings, it applauds the precise handling of Jewish ritual categories in the translation of Jesus’ speech about food (Mark 7:1-23). The review also questions the inclusion of the longer ending (Mark 16,9-20) in the main text and argues for use of the rough Nestle-Aland ending: “γάρ” (Mark 16:8).
