Abstract

Kirsten Nielsen, former professor of Old Testament Studies in Aarhus, presents in her essay two of Hans Jørgen Lundager Jensen's important structural analyses of Old Testament texts: His chapter “Den strukturelle myteanalyse og Det Gamle Testamente” (The structural analysis of myths and the Old Testament) in Myter i Det Gamle Testamente (Myths in the Old Testament) from 1990 and first of all his doctoral dissertation (Habilitationsschrift) Den fortærende ild. Strukturelle analyser af narrative og rituelle tekster i Det Gamle Testamente (The Devouring Fire. Structural Analyses of Narrative and Ritual Texts in the Old Testament) from 2000. Hans Jørgen was the first in Denmark to introduce Claude Lévi-Strauss and his methods of myth analysis and to show their value for Old Testament studies. Hans Jørgen has thereby had an important and much appreciated influence on Old Testament studies.
