Abstract

This article argues that Actor-Network Theory (ANT) can work as an entry to understanding the Agential Realism of Karen Barad. In order to open for a better understanding of Barad the text is a reading of Barad through two “diffraction grids”: For one, agential realism is read through ANT, mainly through the work of Bruno Latour, in order to bring her understanding of materiality to the foreground. Secondly, both are read through a key concept in psychology, Agency, in order to bring their understandings forward. Key concepts from both ANT and Agential Realism are introduced for the reading of both. Because Barad’s main argument draws on the quantum physics and epistemology quantum physicist Niels Borh, Agential Realism is unfolded through a quite thorough introduction to Barad’s reading of his works. The article concludes with a discussion of the possible contribution by agential realism to posthumanistic psychology.
