About the Journal

Focus and Scope

Nordiske Udkast is a critical social science journal that publishes original, peer-reviewed articles in Scandinavian languages. The journal is named Udkast (Draft) to emphasize that all research is a work in progress, and to signal that the articles we publish are drafts or challenges to researchers' contributions to public debate.

Nordiske Udkast contributes with empirical analyses, theoretical discussions, and methodological reflections, outlining key developments and trends. The journal particularly brings together various attempts to integrate society and the individual, theory and practice. It publishes articles that reflect the diversity of Nordic research in the humanities and social sciences, and we strive to ensure that the articles are accessible to non-specialist readers and can serve as a bridge between different theoretical traditions, fields of study, and between research and practice. Students are also encouraged to contribute to the journal.

Nordiske Udkast places strong emphasis on publishing critical research. Critique can develop existing practices from within. As such, critique provides a fundamental and general contribution to changing and advancing existing theory and practice. Identifying what is problematic and limiting can point to opportunities for overcoming these limitations, problems, conflicts, and contradictions in both theory and practice.

The journal supports students in developing their theses into articles, publishes PhD defenses in article form, and also provides a platform for practitioners and ongoing projects to reflect on and theorize their work.

Peer Review Process

Articles are primarily reviewed based on the journal’s editorial goals, profile, and the reviewer’s academic expertise. The reviewer’s task is to provide feedback in a way that gives the author constructive comments and suggestions for revisions, clarifications, etc.

The review typically ends with a recommendation: accepted as is, accepted with suggested revisions, accepted after major rewriting, etc. The final decision is made by the editor-in-chief and the editorial board.

Each article is reviewed by two reviewers, selected based on their academic knowledge and relevance to the article’s topic.

Reviewers have four weeks to complete their review.
