Abstract

The aim of this paper is to outline the development of Danish-Polish lexicography from its beginnings to the present. The paper adopts a functional perspective. Therefore, its primary focus is on situations which have triggered the need for communication between Danes and Poles, and on the extent to which these are reflected in the structure and content of the dictionaries examined. Each of the investigated dictionaries is examined with a view to determining two tings: firstly, its functionality in the particular communicative needs it is meant to satisfy, and, secondly, its capacity as a source of inspiration for the development of Danish-Polish lexicography. Finally, on the basis of the investigations the paper offers several desiderata for future dictionaries between Danish and Polish.
