Indefiniteness is a precondition for efficient linguistic comrnunication. Modern linguistic theories emphasize the context relative rneaning of lexical units. This article gives an overview of different types of indeterminacy and indicates ho\v lexical indeterminacy as polysemy and vagueness have been treated in traditional dictionaries, and point out same alternative approaches.
