Thc wide potential for incorporating information into an online dictionary gives rise to rcconsidcration of
thc distributional and reference structures of thc dictionary. Tue dictionary can bc drawn up as an cfficicnt
tool, allowing for diffcrent user profiles and user scenarios. By way of a logical information building and
a stratification ofthc amount of information placcd in and outsidc ofthc dictionary articlc, thc information
may bc adaptcd to thc spccific user situation. Tue distribution of thc information is supportcd by various
types of links and references, thus adding a wholc ncw mcaning and form to thc reference structurc
than is thc case with thc traditional papcr dictionary. Thc articlc discusscs thc possibilitics and challcngcs
offcrcd by thc hypcrlink system to thc lcxicographcr in thc prcparation of online dictionarics. This is
