Anmeldelse af Suomen kielen perussanakirja - Finsk basordbok

Resumé

The article is a review of a new monolingual Finnish dictionary in three parts
(Suomen !delen perussanakirja). The dictionary differs from its predecessor in that it
is more descriptive than normative in character and includes a great number of current
colloquial expressions in Finnish. The dictionary is clearly intended for native
speakers of Finnish although no target user groups have been specified in the introduction.
It aims at a comprehensive description of present-day Finnish and is based
on a citation index. No comprehensive computer corpus of modern Finnish has been
available to the editors. In the future this dictionary could provide a solid basis for
various types of user-oriented dictionaries.
