Abstract

The paper argues thai within a lexicographical typology dictionaries for immigrants
must by considered a variant of leamers' dictionaries. It calls for the development of a
general theory of leamers dictionaries on the basis of Scerbas waming against mixed
bilingualism and including the modem theory of dictionaries functions. On this basis,
the paper discuss the basic functions of learners dictionaries and presents a
preliminary concept of a Danish leamers' dictionary.
