Call for Papers: Journalism division @NordMedia 2021 Special Issue (NEW DEADLINE)
Call for Papers: Journalism division @NordMedia 2021 Special Issue
Ester Appelgren, Associate professor at Södertörn University, Sweden
Bente Kalsnes, Associate professor at Kristiania University College, Norway
Raul Ferrer-Conill, Assistant professor at Karlstad University, Sweden
The attempt to keep journalism a socially relevant and financially viable profession is more challenging than ever. In a time when news media are challenged by political actors, inadequate business models, competition from platform companies and precarious labour conditions, the public is consuming ever more news. Technological, social, and structural developments influence journalism, its practices, and its roles in everyday life, society, culture, and politics.
This special issue will highlight the most relevant research presented at the Journalism division of the NordMedia conference. The division welcomes papers that deal with all forms and formats of journalism; changes and developments in journalistic practices, norms, and (professional as well as amateur) roles; ethics and configurations of accountability and verification within the digital media environment; issues of trust and participation; social media and audience participation; online research methods of both journalists and journalism researchers; big data, data journalism, and visualizations; innovation in content, production, and business models; journalism education and the socialization of new actors in the journalism culture.
Abstract submission deadline to the conference is March 10, 2021. Please find the full CFP to the conference division here: https://nordmedianetwork.org/nordmedia-conference-2021/divisions-and-twgs/division-3-journalism/
Deadline for full papers is October 31, 2021. The special issue of Journalistica will be published in spring 2022.
