Abstract

The close relationship between the news media and society’s democratic well-being has drawn widespread interest throughout recent history. Focusing on Denmark, this article briefly reviews recent survey-based research about the traditional news consumption of Danish youth (Kobbernagel, Schrøder & Drotner 2015; Newman m.fl. 2019; Schrøder et al. 2019), before proceeding to consider recent qualitative explorations of this age group’s information repertoires in the high-choice, crossmedia landscape (Peters et al. 2021). The findings point to the increasing importance for young people of non-news media sources of both trivial and civic information, such as audiovisual fiction, social media, and influencers.
