The purpose of this article is to bring enlightment to the matter of small publishing houses in the context of a current boom in the Danish book trade. It is based on an empirical research from my master thesis: The Small Publishing Houses (Andersen, 2018).
In relation to recent changes in publishing the article will point out developments that have created new possibilities for small presses. Furthermore, the article will describe the field of small publishing houses by including data from a survey answered by publishers from small publishing houses. The focus in the research is on alternative publishing houses innovation of the literary process. The article contrary Pierre Bourdieu and The Literary Field with Bruno Latour’s concept of Attachment and Rita Felskis use of it as a way of characterizing a closer connection between the reader and the book, or in this case, the publishing house.
At the end of the article the reader can find to examples with the publishing houses Baggaardsbaroner and Byens forlag as they both present alternative publishing models with attachment as a strategy to gain more readers.
