Hoderegning og valg av arbeidsmetode ved elementære utregninger i addisjon, subtraksjon, multiplikasjon og divisjon

I dag blir kalkulator og andre elektroniske hjelpemidler tatt stadig mer i bruk, og hoderegning er ikke lenger et like naturlig førstevalg som arbeidsmetode ved en elementær utregning. Artikkelen gir først og fremst en oversikt over faktorene som har skapt denne situasjonen, og de utfordringer som hoderegningen og skolen står ovenfor dersom hoderegning igjen skal bli akseptert som førstevalg ved elementære utregninger. Videre blir dagens mange krav om økt bruk av tradisjonelle virkemidler i undervisningen tatt på alvor og vurdert i forhold til integrering med dagens rådende undervisning i forbindelse med hoderegning. Konklusjonene viser at et initiativ til å styrke hoderegningsbruken bør ta utgangspunkt i at elevene må se sitt eget behov for hoderegning dersom det skal kunne forventes at de skal øke bruken av hoderegning på bekostning av lite nyansert bruk av kalkulator, og at en integrering av tradisjonelle virkemidler med rådende undervisningsprinsipp bør kunne vurderes på grunnlag av erfaringer og data fra forsøk på slik integrering.
