Resumé

From welfare-movement to equal pay-movement: The fight for equal pay by public-sector, female-dominated professions in connection with the collective bargainings in 2008 This article demonstrates how the strong equal-pay movement (consisting of public and female-dominated professions) that was active around the time of thecollective bargaining 2008, arose. The equal-pay movement is an interesting topic because it it the first time since the dissolution of the Danish women’s movement “rødstrømperne” in 1985 that we have seen an active and collective movement for gender equality in Denmark. I argue how the equal- pay movement must be understood as an extension of the leftist welfare-movement that emerged in 2006 as a reaction to the Liberal-Conservative government’s welfare initiatives. The female-dominated professions did not get the equal pay they had fought for in the collective bargaining 2008. But that does not mean that they went on strike or demonstrated in vain.
