Resumé

Miljøhistorie har internationalt været en af de hurtigst voksende grene af historieforskningen inden for de seneste årtier, og også i Danmark er det et forskningsfelt i vidtforgrenet vækst. Vidtforgrenet, fordi miljøhistorien rækker ud til og ind over både natur- og samfundsvidenskab og andre humanistiske discipliner. Denne artikel ser først på, hvordan ideen om Antropocæn har vundet indpas over de seneste 20 år. Ideerne om Antropocæn angiver både et anslag for at analysere natur og kultur som gensidige betingelser for liv og historie, mens det også åbner for nye historiske narrativer. Som forskningsfelt er miljøhistorie præget af toneangivende dagsordner fra det omgivende samfund.

I 1950erne og 60erne gav spørgsmål om ubalancer mellem menneske og natur anledning til mange af de tidlige studier, hvor de klassiske forureningsproblematikker kan samles under betegnelsen ”røg, støj og møg”. Andre studieobjekter angår spørgsmål om skiftende natursyn og forestillinger om biodiversitet, mens affaldshåndtering, energiproduktion og energi- og ressourceforbrug er andre emner, der har vundet meget frem i Danmark i de seneste par årtier. Endeligt diskuterer artiklen karakteren af den dobbelte ambition, der præger en del miljøhistorie, som både søger at bidrage til viden om miljøets historie og den historiske økologi eller naturhistorie.
