Et kvalitativt interviewstudie af kvindelige håndboldspilleres specialiseringsveje til det danske A-landshold

Formålet var at beskrive danske kvindelige håndboldspilleres veje til verdenseliten, samt at identificere sociokulturelle faktorer, der har påvirket spillernes specialisering. Data blev genereret gennem semistrukturerede interviews med seks danske landsholdsspillere. Alle seks spillere havde unikke veje mod verdenseliten. Specialiseringsvejene var karakteriseret ved sampling og multisport i børneårene og de tidlige ungdomsår, og alle spillere fokuserede først på håndbold efter 12 årsalderen. Særligt viste spillernes fællesskaber og venskaber at have betydning for specialiseringen. Sportsgrene blev valgt til eller fra på baggrund af, hvor de stærkeste venskaber og fællesskaber var, og venskaber havde ligeledes betydning for spillernes vedblivende prioritering af sporten. Et samspil mellem selektion og egen oplevelse af kompetence initierede en yderligere intensivering af sporten. Studiet viser, at spillernes venskaber og fællesskaber i høj grad former vejen til verdenselite, som ikke tidligere er belyst i litteraturen.
