Judabyen og Elefantøen
Kilder til de ældste jødiske samfund i Babylonien og Egypten
Abstract
This source publication contains Danish translations of 33 texts about the earliest Jewish communities in Babylonia and Egypt. The majority are letters, administrative documents, marriage contracts, and cooperation agreements. Taken together, they present a different picture of the life of the Judeans in Babylonia and Egypt than the one found in the Old Testament. The selection illustrates the various social, economic, and religious conditions under which the Jews or Judeans of antiquity in the Middle East must have lived. The book also includes a broad introduction to this source material and to the latest research in the field, aimed at students of theology, religion, and history, as well as other interested readers in Denmark and the Nordic countries.
