Hvorfor stemmer vi på udemokratiske politikere? En ny litteratur i hastig udvikling

I flere og flere vestlige demokratier står vælgere over for følgende dilemma: Skal man stemme på en demokratisk sindet kandidat, man er politisk uenig med, eller på en kandidat fra eget parti, som truer demokratiet? Ny forskning viser, at de fleste vælgere prioriterer partiloyalitet over demokratiske principper og dermed accepterer udemokratisk adfærd fra deres egen politiske fløj. Dette udgør en af de største udfordringer for vores demokratier i dag. Denne oversigtsartikel giver et systematisk overblik over den nye og spirende forskningslitteratur, som undersøger, hvorfor vælgere handler, som de gør, hvordan de opfatter deres egen adfærd, og hvilke tiltag der kan øge villigheden til at fastholde de demokratiske principper – selv når det koster politisk. Artiklen klæder dermed læseren på til bedre at forstå, hvorfor udemokratiske ledere i vestlige demokratier kan bryde den ene demokratiske regel efter den anden uden at blive straffet på valgdagen.
