Abstract

Dette temanummer adresserer og bidrager med ny forskning i årsagerne til demokratisk tilbagegang, der i dag typisk udspiller sig ved, at liberal-demokratiske institutioner gradvist og implicit undermineres af den siddende, demokratisk valgte regering. Temanummerets artikler præsenterer dels litteraturreviews, der diskuterer væsentlige fund, dels nye teoretiske perspektiver og empiriske undersøgelser. Denne introduktionsartikel præsenterer en stiliseret model, der identificerer og integrerer to strømme i forskningslitteraturen – et borgerperspektiv og et institutionsperspektiv. Borgernes og institutionernes rolle kobles sjældent direkte sammen, men netop dette kan bidrage til en mere fuldstændig forståelse af årsagerne til demokratisk tilbagegang. Vi afslutter med at diskutere artiklernes bidrag og deres placering i modellen.
