Vad heter förvärv på finska? Användningen av hjälpmedel när blivande språkexperter översätter

Resumé

The aim of the study is to explore how university students with Swedish as their main or secondary subject use different kinds of translator aids (Swedish/Finnish). The study is a part of a research project focusing the use and contents of translator aids by three groups of informants, namely two groups of university students (subject studies/Bachelor’s degree and advanced level studies/Master’s degree) and professional translators in Finland. The present study comprises student protocols in which the students have logged their searches and consultation when translating a specialised text in the field of economics. The results of the study show that the students use most often bilingual online dictionaries when translating from L2 to L1. If they do not find what they seek, they consult a monolingual online dictionary to be sure that they have understood the meaning of the word or phrase.
