About the Journal

Focus and scope

Journalistica is a Nordic open access journal that publishes academic research articles on journalism understood as an interdisciplinary field. 

Based on a wide range of theories and methods, Journalistica articles address questions concerning journalistic practice and culture in a broad sense, including journalistic roles and norms, media institutions, media economics, media content, genres, and language. Typical contributors to Journalistica are journalism, communication, and media researchers, but also political scientists, sociologists, ethnologists, historians, linguists, and rhetoricians.

Journalistica accepts original manuscripts with relevance to media and journalism in the Nordic countries. Manuscripts must not have been published in or submitted to other journals or publications.  Journalistica accepts submissions in Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, and English.  

Journalistica publishes both special issues and issues without a thematic focus. From 2022, accepted articles are published directly after copy-editing ("online first").

Journalistica is registered as a Category 1 journal in the Danish (BFI), Norwegian (NPI), and Finnish (Publikationsforum) Bibliometric System and indexed by the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) and SherpaRomeo. 

Peer review-process

All articles undergo double-blind peer review. You will not be told the author's name and the author will not be given your name. Each article is reviewed by two reviewers, who work independently.  

Open Access policy

Journalistica is an open-access journal and uses a Creative Commons CC BY 3.0 license. Journalistica charges no publication fee.
