Materialerevolutionen – træk af plastindustriens udvikling 1945-1972

Resumé

Med de moderne plastmaterialers indtog efter 2. verdenskrig skete en materialerevolution af dimensioner, som også kom til at præge dansk erhvervsliv og forbrugernes købsmuligheder, bl.a. med frembringelsen af helt nye produkter. Inden for mange industribrancher blev naturmaterialerne træ, metal, gummi, læder, glas, pap m.fl. erstattet med plast. Med udbredelsen af helsyntetiske volumenplastmaterialer og nye plastforarbejdende maskiner blev en helt ny plastindustri født. Samtidigt medførte det fortrængningskonkurrence og produktionsomlægninger inden for de traditionelle industribrancher, der kunne se konkurrencefordele i at gå over til at anvende plast i produktionen. Artiklen redegør for de mange nye virksomhedsetableringer, dansk plastindustri frembragte i perioden 1945 til 1972, herunder hvilke anvendelses- og produktområder, der fik størst betydning for dansk erhvervsliv.

The Material Revolution – the Development of the Danish Plastic Industry, 1945-1972

With the arrival of modern plastic materials, a comprehensive and profound materiel revolution took place in Danish business after World War II. In the late 1940s, it became possible for consumers to acquire numerous new products made of plastics – toys, kitchenware, packaging, nylon stockings, fishing rods etc. At the same time, more industrial sectors that previously used natural materials - wood, metal, rubber, leather, glass etc.- gradually switched to using plastic in their production plants. With the spread of fully synthetic volume plastic materials and use of modern plastic molding machines, a completely new plastic processing industry was born. The article explains and analyses the early company establishments in the Danish plastics industry from 1945 to 1972, including a description of the founders and their background for entering the new industry branch.
