Bevingede og ubevingede ord fra dansk revy

Abstract

This article deals with some familiar and unfamiliar quotations that derive from Danish theatre revues. After a section that provides the reader with definitions (for example, of the linguistic term bevinget ord), there follows a short history of Danish revue from the first performance in 1849 until today. The section, ”Udvælgelse – metode – kilder“ (Selection – method – sources) accounts for the way in which the familiar and unfamiliar quotations have been found by searching a variety of sources (especially dictionaries), how their origin has been verified and their distribution checked in modern Danish, and how they are categorised into familiar and unfamiliar quotations. The method has resulted in a list, ordered chronologically, that contains 35 expressions. A closer study of these revue expressions shows among other things that the number of extant revue expressions increases with every period of 25 years. Furthermore, the oldest revue expressions are unfamiliar and most of the expressions come from revue songs. The article ends with a comprehensive list of the expressions, arranged alphabetically, that contains information, including authentic quotations from the revues as well as examples of their use in modern Danish.
