Author Biographies

Tori Holmes, Queen's University Belfast

Tori Holmes is Senior Lecturer in Brazilian Studies at Queen's University Belfast and one of the founders and coordinators of REBRAC. Her research focuses on socially and politically engaged uses of the internet and digital technologies in Brazil. She also works on contemporary Brazilian documentary and audiovisual production, especially, but not only, as it intersects with digital culture.

Sara Brandellero, Leiden University

Dr Sara Brandellero is University Lecturer in Brazilian Literature and Culture at Leiden University, in the Netherlands. Her research has entailed work on 20th- and 21st-century Brazilian literature, film and culture as well as transnational projects on cultural exchanges between Latin America, Africa and Europe. Projects and publications have included work on experiences and narratives of mobility, migration and diasporas, including diasporic communities of African and Brazilian heritage in Europe; the urban night and public spaces in relation to heritage, belonging, well-being and social justice; politics of literature and film in democratic and non-democratic contexts. From 2025, she will lead the Horizon Europe collaborative project #DemocracyinAction: Grassroots Culture, Arts and Cultural Spaces for Political Participation and Expression Online and Offline in a Resilient Europe, which involves research focus and collaboration with Brazil, in comparative frameworks.
