Abstract

Henrik Jeldtoft Jensen explains how fractal structures and 1/f noise arise as two manifestations of the same self-organized critical state. Using a lattice gas model as a starting point, he demonstrates how complex patterns and signals can form spontaneously in dynamical systems with many degrees of freedom. A deep and theoretically grounded article that draws connections from chaos theory to statistical physics and shows how simple rules can give rise to scale-invariant phenomena.
