Lydskrivning af dansk med det internationale fonetiske alfabet

This short article is written in response to the proposals presented in the paper by Schachtenhaufen in the previous volume of Danske Studier. It is argued that in general, and contrary to Schachtenhaufen’s claims, the adaptations to the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) made in most descriptions of Danish phonetics and phonology are not in conflict with the principles put forward in the IPA Handbook. Furthermore, it is pointed out that most of Schachtenhaufen’s proposals for a revised transcription standard for Danish appear to be without sufficient empirical foundation.
